Identifying the Plateau
Our client hit a deadlift plateau at 365 lbs for three weeks straight. Volume was solid but intensity lacked progression. Sleep tracked at 6.5 hours average with elevated HRV variability, indicating stress.
Data-Driven Adjustments
- Increased deadlift intensity by adding 5% to the working sets while reducing reps from 5 to 3.
- Cut accessory volume by 15% to focus on recovery and neural adaptation.
- Adjusted macros: raised protein from 2.4g/kg to 2.7g/kg to support muscle repair.
- Added 100 kcal from healthy fats to aid hormonal balance and recovery.
Outcome
Within two weeks, deadlift set PR improved by 10 lbs. Sleep normalized at 7 hours, and fatigue ratings decreased. This demonstrates the necessity of dialing intensity precisely while managing volume and nutrition.
